Fall Dover Hall Wedding in September :: MARY + ANDREW

Glitzy Dover Hall wedding with a touch of Scottish heritage? Yes, please. You guys, Mary told us that she was having a sparkly fairytale princess wedding, and she delivered. Even her bridal bouquet and wedding cake had shimmery sparkles. Did we mention that her dad wore a glittery sequin suit coat for their father daughter dance? This RVA wedding was spectacular.

Mary has 4 sisters and a really tightly knit family. One of her sisters just had a baby the week before, and she was there for the wedding!

How They Met

Our sweet couple met on OK Cupid. After Mary’s friend insisted she download the app, their first date happened at Brown’s Island. Their conversation went so well that it continued through dinner and late into the night. Eventually, they had to part ways to go to bed, because they both needed to get up early to go to church the next morning.

Doesn’t she look like a princess?

When They Knew It Was Love

On a hike to Humpback Rock in the Charlottesville VA area, our groom told his future spouse that he loved her. And you guys, a professional photographer was there and captured all of it as a surprise gift to two people he had never met! How cool is this?!

The Proposal Story

Granddads Bluff in Lacrosse, Wisconsin overlooks three states, and it happens to be a special place to our groom. There, at the top while the sunset, Andrew got down on one knee and popped the question. Mary said yes. And, a professional photographer was there to photograph all of it. Although this time, Andrew hired the photographer to capture the proposal. Good move there, Andrew!

Their Dover Hall Wedding Theme:

Mary describes it as, “Glitter, glitter, and more glitter.” Everything from the wedding dress to the cake, shoes, bridesmaid dresses, favors, flowers, and even her dad’s outfit sparkled. It was so pretty.

Literal platinum bridesmaid dresses for the win, y’all.

Tartan, Kilt, and Notes of Scotland

Along with all of the glitz, Andrew’s Scottish heritage was also woven throughout the Dover Hall wedding. He wore his family’s kilt, and his groomsmen wore ties with his tartan. Dave learned all about Scottish kilts as Andrew got ready at the beginning of the day.

It’s hard to beat the classic combination of a simple, black bowtie and a crisp, white shirt.

Their Fall Wedding Portrait Session

These two enjoyed their Dover Hall wedding day so much. It’s so easy to see it in every single photo that they took. Here’s a peek at their outdoor portrait session in September:

Their Ballroom Ceremony

Their ceremony and reception both took place in the ballroom at Dover Hall Estate. Chancy Charm was amazing and really created magic as the RVA wedding planner.

Also, in addition to the groom and groomsmen’s tartan outfits, you’ll also see notes of Scotland throughout the ceremony. Bag pipes played as guests entered the RVA venue and in between vows, the exchange of rings, and afterward.

Their Ballroom Reception

Because Dover Hall is glorious, reception decor was kept to mostly colorful floral arrangements and lighting. Also, you guys, the father daughter dance was epic. Mary and her father brought next level type dance moves. They were having so much fun.
