Elegant summer wedding at the VMFA in June with the coolest crew, a Backstreet Boys serenade, and these [see below] glittery pink Betsey Johnson wedding shoes? We were in heaven. We met Anna and Matt at a Richmond Weddings Show at Main Street Station here in Richmond, and instantly connected. From their engagement photo session at Libby Hill Park and Church Hill in May to this totally elegant Virginia Museum of Arts wedding in the summer, it’s easy to see just how perfect these two are for each other. Anna and Matt, we had the best time being your Richmond wedding photographer and wish you years of happiness!
If you are looking for a few ideas to prank the bride or groom (We will explain more about that in a few!) or some light pink, cream, and grey wedding theme inspiration, you will love this post.
So, our groom is stationed in Hawaii in the military and our bride (ahem, Dr. Hutto, yay girl!) lives in Fargo. Having them in Richmond VA for their engagement photos was such a treat! Matt flew in a week before their wedding so that we could fit in an engagement session just two days before their wedding. Talk about a tight schedule! Despite that, they were so relaxed and excited to be with each other. Yet, there was also this sense of peace that just surrounded them the entire time.
We love all of the little pops of fun color throughout the soft white, gold and blush wedding color palette that our couple chose. For starters, her emerald and diamond earrings were so pretty! And, how gorgeous are these Betsey Johnson bridal shoes? Like, bows, pink sequin glitter, and teal bottoms?! We were obsessed.
From our time with this Richmond couple, it was easy to tell how family was really important to them. Anna and her mom have such a sweet relationship with each other.
Oh my goodness, Anna, you made the prettiest Richmond bride! We found this spot right outside the VMFA in the garden. Instantly, we knew that it would make the perfect backdrop for wedding party photos. The grey bridesmaid dresses, Anna’s Stella York wedding dress, and creamy white peony wedding bouquets were such an elegant summer wedding combo.
Our bride’s first look with her father was priceless. We love both of their reactions in this one. They are so sweet!
We mentioned Anna’s bridal details as fun, but Matt’s were pretty fun as well. The groom and groomsmen’s tuxedos from The Black Tux were dark navy, nearly black. And, they had a pin dot pattern and satin collars. As if that weren’t cute enough, they also wore bullet shell casing boutonnieres and gray bow ties.
This spot in the garden was the perfect location for Anna’s bridal party photos. So, of course, we had to get a few photos of the guys here. Looking sharp there gentlemen!
We mentioned a prank, right? Matt’s groomsmen pranked their friend with a fake first look attempt. Like, someone wore a wedding dress and held his hand and everything. It was really funny. Despite that though, our Richmond couple read letters to each other before their ceremony at Saint Joseph’s Villa. Their body language is everything in this next photo. These two are so happy and excited to be married. Also, Anna, thank you so much for wearing mint green nail polish. It really brought out the colors in the next photo. Hint: the very last photo in this section is the prank.
Ok guys, it is time for their ceremony. Similarly to one of our previous Richmond couples with a Summer VMFA wedding, Anna and Matt chose to have their ceremony at Saint Joseph’s Villa.
Yay, you two! As the guests headed to cocktail hour, we took a few minutes with our newlyweds to get some portraits of just the two of them. Aren’t they cute?
As Matt is stationed in Hawaii, he wanted to incorporate that into their elegant summer wedding day. So, our bride and groom wore leis. We love it when our couples add little meaningful touches like this throughout their celebration.
We love it how our bride just melts into her hubby in this one. It really is moments like this that make our job as Richmond wedding photographers so meaningful.
Oh, and did we mention that we aren’t all serious and cute over here? Fun wedding party photo ideas coming right up!
Did you catch the groomsmen playing rock, paper, scissors? Or, was that secret handshake?
The Marble Hall at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is definitely one of our favorite Richmond VA wedding venues. In fact, it made our list of Top Ten Favorite RVA Venues. And, it was a perfect match for our couple’s light pink, gold, and grey wedding reception decor.
There is nothing better than a bunch of groomsmen serenading the bride alongside the groom. Their song of choice was totally from the Backstreet Boys, and it brought so many happy tears and 90s nostalgia.
What else makes a great wedding reception? A live band, of course! The Mashup Band with East Coast Entertainment had the dance floor packed the entire time. There was not a lull in the party the entire night!
