CHIC VMFA SUMMER WEDDING :: Richmond, Virginia
Emily and Joe met during his third year of medical school and her fourth year of living in Richmond and working alongside his mother. Yep, you read that right. This love ship was destined to set sail. Emily’s co-worker was Joe’s mom! Y’all. She gave Emily her son’s number and told her to call him. And now, here we are at their chic Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) wedding reception having the time of our lives while Emily and Joe boogie to their first wedding dance smash-up surrounded by family and friends (some who even came from across the country!). If only everything in life were that easy. But, the story doesn’t end here. Come to find out, for Emily, it wasn’t that easy. After her liking Joe and him dating someone else, Emily made a New Year’s resolution to move on, except that at the same time, Joe started liking her! He called her that same month and asked her on what became their first date: a hike up to McAfee’s Knob in the Blue Ridge Mountains. And, he kissed her on the way to the top. So romantic!
Ok, here’s the part where you’re going to need a Kleenex. Joe’s proposal was just the most intricate, thoughtful, romantic story I’ve ever heard. It’s centered around a scavenger hunt; the same way that Dave proposed to me! There is nothing like a good, carefully-planned scavenger hunt to really throw a curveball into the day when you just think you’re having this fun moment with the love of your life, then BAM. Bended knee, diamond ring, and oh, my goodness, of course I’ll marry you… in my pajamas. Thankfully, Emily and Joe’s proposal took a slightly different turn than ours and ended with rose petals on a park bench and Joe yelling out “She said yes!” to his roommate who captured the whole thing on his new phone. Lord, thank you for friends who take the time to scatter rose petals, take pictures, and make all those proposals happen… even if it’s just inviting the future bride and groom to your wedding so that they have no choice but to look at each other and fall madly in love. Now, isn’t that just the sweetest? Let’s take a look at Emily and Joe’s perfect VMFA wedding day.
Emily and Joe had a St. Joseph’s Villa wedding ceremony and a VMFA wedding reception. The large arches and beautiful stained glass windows of St. Joseph’s Villa in Richmond perfectly contrasted the edgy modern elegance of the Marble Hall at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
So many smiles! Weren’t they just having the best time?
