RETREAT!

Personal, photography

October 7, 2013

I started a new website and new photo blog this year, and went full speed ahead into making sure I blogged three times per week.  I LOVE sharing the beautiful images of my amazing clients with everyone.  But I soon got burnt out, and felt like I was just churning out blog posts instead of getting to know my clients and sharing their story along with their images.  So in September I finally took a step back, retreated if you will. I spent time in the middle of nowhere in Maryland with other women to refresh and reconnect.  And I spent some time in the middle of nowhere in Ohio with other amazing photographers who are thinking differently and purposefully about producing art and figuring out how to best tell the stories of the people we photograph.  And spent some time thinking about how I want to be able to share my clients images.  I don’t want to quickly share five different clients with you each week.  I want to get to know my clients.  Hear their story.  Experience how they relate with one another, and spend the week slowly sharing them with the world.  I thought back to my own wedding day, and how I was hurt when we never showed up on our photographers blog.  And then again when my new website never showed up on my graphic designers blog- I felt like maybe she didn’t really like my new website that she created and it wasn’t quite worthy of gracing her blog.  And then I had my own experience in front of the camera with Justin & Mary- two of my photographer idols.  And I SHOWED UP ON THEIR BLOG! AND THEY EVEN WROTE A FEW SENTENCES ABOUT ME!  Such a little, seemingly unimportant thing, made me feel so special.  And I want my clients to feel that way.  So… Even if I get months and months backlogged, I want to take the time to blog each of my clients from here on out. I want them to have the chance to have their story told.  Whether they fit the “feel” I want for my photography or not.  I’m not sure what this will mean for how often I’ll be blogging, but I do hope that this means my blog gets a lot more personal and precious and interesting.
Oh! And I’ll be sharing more of my story.. whatever that means.  I’m not sure what my story is.  But it definitely includes cooking, being the queen of finding awesome deals, and learning from my mistakes.

And because everything is always better with a picture of a stoic llama..
