Our First Date.

Design, Personal

January 2, 2013

Lets just take a second and sit right down and be honest here. Blogging is an extremely overwhelming task for me.  I just don’t even know where to start. So we’ll just start right here.  So this is like our first date or something, right? I guess that means I need to give myself a little pep talk. Alright, Sarah!  Get pumped! Get psyched! Woo! You can do this!  Yeah! Alright! Go for it!

So, Hi. Hey there! My name is Sarah.  I am quiet, goofy, thoughtful, genuine, and I like cardigans, the word “reckon”, anything marigold/mustard colored, and staying home with my husband.  Oh, should I not mention I have a husband on our first date?   I own my own photography business. It started out as Sknow Design as I started my graphic design business with a little bit of photography on the side after graduating from art school.  Then I realized that journalistic portrait photography was my true love, so I changed it to Sknow Design Photography. But now that owning my own photography business is my full time job, I wanted to make sure the name allows all of my ridiculously awesome clients to really get to know me personally, by my own name, instead of hiding behind my business name.  So now, let me introduce you to our new name; Sknow Photo By Sarah Mitchell.   Im a cardigan wearing, journalistic portrait photographer out of Annapolis, Maryland and I want the world to know! I’m working with an incredibly amazing graphic designer, Ravyn Stadick of Three Fifteen Design to create a whole new cardigan-loving identity that really matches who I am as a person and as a photographer.   I’d love to take you through some of the process because I’ve already learned so much about myself and my business and my photography by going through this process, and I’m so so proud of how things are coming along.

Once I hired Ravyn to work with me, we got a chance to talk on the phone (she’s seriously the sweetest person ever and knew exactly what questions to ask me to really dig into what I wanted. She had me put together a Pinterest board with all kinds of stuff that I like and that inspire me.  Side note.  I had NEVER used Pinterest before this, and man oh man was it overwhelming…In a totally awesome way! Once I put together this Pinterest board, Ravyn put together a design board that she will be using throughout the rest of the process to inspire the design of my logo, brand, and new website.   So here’s what she put together:

So awesome, right? It was from this design board, along with just getting to know me and what I wanted my brand to feel like, we went a few rounds of different styles of logo proofs until we reached the final logo suite that just made my heart sing.  Take a look at this beauty:

It was everything that I could’ve asked for.  She did such a beautiful job of keeping the four-petal element of the original logo from my Sknow Design business that I designed myself and was really attached to, after using it for over four years.  While still changing and updating it to reflect my photographic style and cardigan loving personality.  Im so excited to start 2013 out with new branding that reflects my organic, comfortable, bright, personal, natural, cherished, fun, loved, treasured, happy, intimate, beautiful, heirloom, simple, light, sincere, pure, relaxed, clean journalistic portrait photography business.

Hey, That wasn’t so bad! (Although I did happen to have HGTV on in the background while blogging.. maybe thats the secret to non-intimidating blogging).  So lets end this first date of ours with a nice warm side-hug
