How exciting is it when a few years of sparks flying and some texts suddenly turn a quick trip to Richmond into a Saturday afternoon drink conversation about forever?! We love love stories. Scroll down to head straight to Ashley and Jonathan’s Oatlands Historic House and Gardens May wedding. Or, stick with us for a few minutes to hear all about how they met and their proposal story!
You guys, did you catch their Middleburg engagement photos? Ashley is a professional horse rider, and so of course her Loudon County engagement photo session had to include her furbaby! It is the most photogenic horse we have ever photographed. We swear it knew when to strike a pose. She and Jon were just the chillest, happiest couple despite all of the rain that day. As you can expect, this couple’s wedding day was just as fun. First off, their Northern Virginia wedding venue is the picturesque Oatlands Historic House and Gardens. Their catering was provided by Eleven Courses Catering and included fancy grilled cheese sandwiches and a mashed potato bar! Yum! Their Leesburg DJ was not an actual dj, but a live band that gave an epic performance. And, our bride used the same makeup artist for her engagement photos and wedding photos. #genuius
These two met in college and kinda hit it off, but the connection was not quite there. One would be interested in the other, but that person was already in a relationship, and so on. Until one day. Ashley was living in Richmond and Jonathan decided to visit. No big deal, it wasn’t like he was planning anything… or was he? They wound up having a drink and that was the day that he mentioned forever. Six excruciating months after he purchased the ring, their proposal happened at Virginia winery, Cana, in front of all of their friends and family. Yay!
We love this moment with Ashley and her mom. You will never guess that these photos are from a little side hallway stairwell!
So, Cana Vineyards & Winery proposal > Equestrian engagement session in Middleburg > Oatlands Historic House and Gardens wedding in May in Leesburg. These two really know their way around Virginia countryside venues. We had so much fun being Ashley and Jon’s Leesburg wedding photographers. Enjoy some of our favorites from their stunning spring wedding day!
Hot pink bridesmaid dresses by Bella Bridesmaids for the win! Light pink and bright pink flowers combined with colorful bridesmaid dresses, historic Virginia venue, and lush gardens. You cannot go wrong with this combination.
Our couple decided to skip first look photos. Instead of having a first look, they shared this moment right before the ceremony.
Let’s take a look at some of our favorites from their bride and groom portrait session. Oatlands Historic House and Gardens has no shortage of gorgeous spots for couple and wedding party photos.
This one is a favorite! Oh man, that view!
Wedding ceremony coming right up! The gated entrance and stately white and black Oatlands Plantation mansion awaits.
The ceremony site was Boxwood Terrace at Oatlands. Picture this: historic garden venue surrounded by topiaries, winding rows of boxwoods, and pretty much every sort of flowery magic imaginable. Or – just take a look for yourself.
Isn’t the Boxwood Terrace at Oatlands Historic House and Gardens stunning? Our Leesburg couple had their vow ceremony in front of the green arched hedge.
Yay! Congrats you two! Now, let’s get this party started. Be sure to check out their hanging floral chandeliers. What’s that? Did we say flower chandeliers?! You guys, they were so pretty!
Yummmmmm. Next up, the grand entrance of our newly married couple.
And then, THIS HAPPENED. Our Leesburg couple are big fans of the band, Burnt Sienna, so it is only natural that they would rock out at their wedding reception, riiiiiight? Live music at weddings is basically one of the many reasons Dave and I have a happy dance. The runner up is a tie between baby toes, a new cardigan, coral charm peonies, and everything else that is even remotely related to being a wedding photographer, living in Richmond, and being married to Dave. I digress. Let’s pretend for a quick second that Burnt Sienna is playing on a stage at a wedding reception. Take a look and dance right along with us.
