As you may know, we’re in the midst of a rebrand, thanks to our awesome graphic designer, Ravyn Stadick of Three Fifteen Design. She’s revamped the logo I originally designed more than 5 years ago now, and she’s also putting together a brand new bright, cheery, simple, organic, fun website for Sknow Photo! All this meant that I needed to redo our packaging to match this new brand! I wanted something simple so that the packaging doesn’t outshine the product, but still fun, bright, organic and environmentally friendly. So here’s what I came up with:

I used wooden USB drives branded, literally, with our logo on the front, and the Sknow Photo web address on the back.

The boxes for the USB drives are made from recycled cardboard pulp. Similar to what eggs are packaged in. I had a few options I was deciding between for what I’d be putting the USB drives in. The paper pulp was just more environmentally friendly, reasonably priced, super cool, and fits our print release card in there perfectly as well.

Our print release card is wallet sized so you don’t have to remember to bring a big sheet of paper with you if you want to get your photos printed. And its super cool, and has the most buttery-soft texture. Because I’m sure thats what everyone will notice first..

Heres the box all put together and tied up. With yellow bakers twine, of course. The moment I saw the yellow bakers twine, I knew that I’d be using it for packaging. Originally I had thought to use these cool yellow rubber bands to close the paper pulp boxes. Then I thought maybe a nice ribbon. But I just had to go with the yellow twine. It really gives it a more organic homemade feel that Im looking for.

I searched high and low for some pretty tissue paper to match the new brand, to no avail. But in the end, I’m glad I went with just simple white recycled tissue paper. Theres something about it.. And it really brings out the wax seal to hold everything together. Put that together with a thank you note in a classic font and a special surprise inside the card, and thats what’s in all of our new Sknow Photo packages for all of our 2013 portrait collection and wedding collection clients.

A couple more finishing touches of recycled paper packing material and awesomely perfect washi tape.
